From the painted sky,
A broken butterfly falls
To
Harsh
Concrete
-
-
cotoneaster —
haven for cotton-tails,
when the giants pass. -
Black-and-yellow wings
Spread for an airborne moment:
The grasshopper leaps -
The ducks come daily,
Brown and gold and fluttering,
To peck at dropped plums -
The clouds descend
Roar, soak the earth, return — to
Sun-lit, silver peaks -
Pine-green clover
Celebrates the sunny days
With pink fireworks -
The mower reigns:
Grass, growth, gardens — all are felled.
Nothing re-grows. -
Still green, pine-cones
Lie scattered through short grass.
The work of parrots? -
The pears lie piled —
Brown, over-ripe leftovers
After harvest.
