The day stretches Tiger-stripes across the earth — Eyelashes of night.

Frost makes rainbows
Of the few, the bright — stars, strewn
In a full moon sky -
The lamp-posts pick
Lush yellow leaves, to plant in
Pools of blue night. -
Fennel, woodsmoke, frost
Scent the still, murmuring air
This moonless night -
A night that looms
In headlights: trees, buildings spring
Out of nowhere -
The night clouds fall
Loose, and lumpy; mottled
Like blurred, dark marble -
crickets and frogs shake
night's cloak — a million jewels — clasped
with a crescent moon
