The cold comes first
To far hills. Fog fading
Trees, grass, into rain -
Bus passengers
Huddle aboard — sheltering
From warm soft rain. -
Enough raindrops
Cover the road — the rest jump up
In sharp arcs —
splash! -
Heat cracks — crumbles —
Pitters, pours, drips — and drains away
Back to hot and dry. -
Between rainstorms
Light falls brighter — purer, like
Concentrated gold -
The clouds, yesterday
ranks — blocks — blanketed the sky.
Today, they fall. -
cigarette smoke creeps
under the awnings, hiding
from rain — and rainbows -
A half-mowed paddock:
Ryegrass hides in wheel-tracks, pale
At the threat of rain -
The wind tosses
A sky coin: half blue, half cloud
It comes down rain.
